    Ccleaner updates

    ICIT2LOL said:
Thanks for the tip however I have mine set to alert me to new updates whenever I open CC - the one VERY annoying thing is I am directed to the download via FileHippo which is so full of obnoxious crap it isn't funny.
I just wished that the piriform site did their own.
Personally I leave auto-update unchecked and manually download and install the Slim Build of Cccleaner when an update is available.

       Note

The Slim build is posted on the Builds page here:

    CCleaner - Builds

It's only released several days after the Standard build that contains the toolbars and extra crap has been released.

The Slim Build has no unwanted extras included.

This is the download you need:

Currently at the time of writing this post the Slim Build isn't available. It will show up as an available download in a few days time. If you want the new version without the crap just wait for the Slim Build.

Hmm now just as matter of interest what does everyone use for cleaning with this as mine analyses fast enough but the actual clean seems to take an inordinate amount of time and one can watch the files go by as they are cleaned - I do use the 1 overwrite pass though.

    Ccleaner sluggish?

I've got mine set to AutoClean. It takes no time at all. I had the same sluggish performance until I learned how to trim cleaners that are not needed from the winapp2.ini file. See this post in this thread:

It's pretty tricky to run that batch file correctly. My preferred method is to use CCEnhancer to auto trim winapp2.ini but I've used both methods before.

Note: Be careful with CCEnhancer and pay attention to anything marked with an asterisk. If you want to know what each setting does - open the winapp2.ini file with your text editor (notepad or similar) and find the relevant entry.

Since, I am a new user to CCleaner, I would like to know how the upgrade path goes? Does it replace the existing CCleaner file when when I upgrade it or does it make a new one?

Generally you can just install it over the top of the old version. If you've downloaded the crap version with the toolbars it's best to fully remove it and reboot before clean installing the Slim Build.

Most people seem to run the 32bit executable by default but I always run the 64bit executable. Obviously only on a 64bit machine.

I run it from a shortcut with the /AUTO switch.

    "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\CCleaner64.exe" /AUTO

If you downloaded the regular version - then you did. Unless of course you unchecked the option on install.

Callendar mate in my pic are what I have in settings are what you term toolbars the different features? Because if I were to get rid of those I would have no way of checking and saving cookies which I do always as one gets sick of deleting passworded sites and having login all the time.
