Is DriverMAX safe to update with?
Im running build 7077, and DriverMAX shows a lot of drivers that have updates, but the ones it says are old are the ones that say 6.1.7077.0

Check the 'version' and make sure it is not reporting a Windows Vista, or *shudder* XP version - and no it is not necessarily safe to update, especially if you replace a Win7 native driver with an incompatible driver....
Thanks..gonna uninstall for safety. Windows Update just told me of a new driver for my wireless in my laptop..I'll just stick to those updates
and do these programs know whether to install 32-bit or 64-bit versions?
You are presented with a list that links you to the driver, but my guess would be that currently it does not.
I'm just gonna leave it up to Windows Update. If none come, so be it.
WU doesnt include 3rd party software though.
I personally think that applications such as drivermax and , when it comes to drivers, even Windows Update, need to be treated as a guide that updates are available.
When you are aware that an update is available then you can make the decision to update or not.
In addition I would also by preference always choose the driver from the manufacturer's site rather than the Windows one. We have to remember that apart from MS hardware devices Microsoft do not write Drivers
With a Beta OS this however this has to be adjusted as it is quite possible that the Windows version will be the latest as the manufacturer may well not make the Beta OS drivers directly available
Bravo - now you're talking, Barman.
What he said - use it as a guide to check for updates - but get the updates yourself.
