    Google Earth goes pear shaped

Whenever I use the radio button to view a location in Google Maps an error occurs.
    Code:
    Google earth has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working properly
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available
Does anyone know what the cause could be and have a solution?

Try opening Google Earth from the program icon instead of through Google Maps. If it opens, update it and try again.

Open Google earth and in the menu bar at top let corner go to tools > options then ensure Direct X graphics mode and True color 32 bit is enabled (see snip below)

    Have you misread my OP?
I'm wanting to open Maps through Earth, not Earth through Maps.

Both are already set as you recommended.

    What to try next?

I do have another idea but I need to test it first.

OK Here is what I found out, I went to the google maps page directly through Internet Explorer (32 bit) or Firefox and clicked on the earth tab in the menu area of the map area and then was asked to install the google earth plug-in (only compatible with 32 bit IE and FIrefox) which installed. I could then view the map imagery in 3D

Google Maps before installing Google Earth plug-in

Google Maps after installing Google Earth plug-in

Or if you are trying to open google maps in google earth the application via file > view in google maps which works OK on my machine.

It would be a good idea and try mborner's suggestion of opening Google Earth from the program icon instead of through Google Maps once to see if the problem is an issue with google earth or internet/firewall related.

If google earth still does not open directly a uninstall/reinstall of google earth may be necessary as some times you may get a corrupt file when downloading/installing, IE: sometimes the whole file is not downloaded and may be missing a couple of MB but the application still installs however the missing couple of MB causes application errors.
