If you log off, you will need to re-enter the password.

Also, if you go to Settings>Preferences you can also have it dismount if your screen saver activates or after a specific period of inactivity.

It isn't quite what I was hoping for, but it is functional.

I would rather have the drive always mounted, and a prompt for a password if I access the drive after the specified inactivity... Instead it is a manual process to "auto-mount" the drive... even though auto-mount sounds like what I would like... automatic mounting on open.

You mean step 11 of the instruction on creating a volume, the written instructions place "new volume" in documents?
I created one in documents as a random place to start off and when I double click the file saved as type "file" it asks which programme I want to open it in. ARGH I want to create a folder to shore files in, not a file in itself to open in a programme, that's pointless as I can't actually store files in files.

Why do not you just encrypt the folder by Windows means? Yeah, I know, you have to put a password on your Windows account for this, but it is not such a bad thing. You simply create a Guest account for other people who use your computer. If you do not know where in Windows this can be done, go to Control Panel > User Account. After setting a password for your Windows account, you can encrypt the folder by Windows means (Folder Properties > Advanced button > Encrypt contents check box).

If the above is not what you need and you made up your mind to find a folder encryption software program, you should note that encryption program has to change you data when encrypting it. It cannot just put a password on the folder. If you simply hook into Windows and intercept system requests, protection will be weak. Encryption is required to secure data. Have a look at Folder Password USB. It is a good folder encryption program.
