VLC Player sometimes switches the theme to basic but only with certain movie files, i have to take a closer look the next time it happens.

Also, GTA:San Andreas. I don't know if that comes under software, but...oh well.

Media Player Classic depending on what output you choose, overlay is fine but other ones like EVR will cause switch.

I've just installed PowerDVD 9 & it had no effect on Windows GUI. What's the EVR setting you speak of?
    Enhanced Video Renderer.
from MPC guide that i found on internets:
...newest renderer that comes out from Redmond and available in Windows Vista (and XP if .NET Framework 2 or newer is installed). It is different than VMR7/VMR9 in that it do not have features like VMR/YUV mixer mode and are dependent completely on Direct3D. It supports MPEG2 (Windows XP and Vista) and H.264 (Vista only) hardware acceleration in DXVA2 mode.

it works fine here with EVR Sync. DXVA too. maybe it causes switch because the video card has porblems running Aero.
