    Java update problem - Windows 7 64-bit

    Hi,

First time poster here, I hope my question is in the correct forum.

    Windows 7 64 bit.

I am trying to update to the latest version of Java. When I go into Control Panel > Java it says Java 6 update 14.

When I try to update it it downloads the update then it uninstalls Java and reinstalls the Java 6 update 14 version.

When i look in Control Panel > Programs and Features there are 2 Javas in there, one says,

    Java 6 update 14 (64-bit) installed on 15/8/2009

    the other says,

Java 6 update 17 installed on 30/3/2010 (although I think the current version is now update 19)

(I don't have any trouble updating Jave on my XP laptop)

    Regards, Chris.

Get it from here instead (can get both x86 and x64),

Java SE Downloads - Sun Developer Network (SDN)

You want the JRE not the JDK, and get the offline version not the online one.

You can have both x86 and x64 installed at the same time as they are different installs, but the x64 version isn't needed unless you are using a program that requires it (the 64 bit version of IE8 for example).

    Stormy13,

Thank you for your answer to my question.

I now have the latest versions of both Javas.

How do I 'tick' this thread as resolved please?

    Regards, Chris.
