I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (7600) on my computer, and I was wondering if there's a way to know if I'm running x64 version of WMP or the x86 version.
You see, when I open the Windows Start tab and scroll all the way to IE, I can choose between x64 and x86. Not the case with WMP though.

From my little experience with w7 ( since i'm a new user too in 7 ), i know that 32bit software is shown
with a " * 32 " in Task Manager indicating that it runs in 32bit.
Right, however I recon there is a x64 version of WMP, there has been since XP. And for us x64 OS users, the x64 version must also be pre-installed.
Problem is, how do I know which one am using, specifically, a similar way in which you're told which version of Windows you're using.
well i just checked Microsofts WMP12 page and i can't see any option to find WMPX64 i am using win 7 X64 and X86 came preinstalled,
to check which version you are using open media player, then go to task manager>processes you will see it is listed as "mediaplayer *32"
Well, I think now I know how to use the 64-bit version of WMP, on Windows 7 at least. I've discovered that by opening the C: partition of your HDD (which is where normally programme files are installed at), you will find two Programme Files folders, one that simply reads '' Program files '', and the second which should read '' Program files (x86) ''.
On folder 2 (x86) is where all the 32-bit programmes and applications are installed at, for example the 32-bit versions of IE, WMP, and others.
But on folder 1, you can also find WMP and IE folders, which led me to believe that this was the folder where the 64-bit counterparts of the default applications were.
So, to use WMP 64-bit version you have to open the player by selecting the link provided whitin the Program files folder (folder 1). It goes more or less like this: '' C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe ''.
This works for IE as well.
Problem is, doing this doesn't set WMP x64 as the default over the x86 version, which would mean you'd have to do this everytime you wanted to use WMP x64. So what I did was opening the x64 WMP by the means explained a few lines above, and then right-clicking on its icon on the Windows tab, you should read, and I quote 'Pin these program to taskbar' above 'Close window'.
I did these so that I could open WMP x64 with ease since I don't use icons on my desktop, instead I use ObjectDock's docks, which remarkably won't open links for x64 applications, or better said, it opens its default (x86) counterparts. Strange that.
Anyway, it can be verified these by opening the task bar, you will realise that WMP no longer reads: '' wmplayer.exe *32 ''. But now it simply reads '' wmplayer.exe ''.
