FZ21Z: That's it!!!! I downloaded Adobe Air and then downloaded BBC iPlayer and it worked. Thanks. I wonder why as Adobe Air is supposed to be part of the download.

    Thanks everyone.

Hello Ken Here is the link to BBC iPlayer Desktop:

    BBC iPlayer - Install

I wouldn't know how to turn off the firewall in my router but this did not cause a problem with XP when I used the same router.

Pebbly: There is no flashing icon on the taskbar.

Severedsolo: I rely on the firewall in NIS 2010 and I have turned NIS off but that doesn't help. Adobe Air installs as part of the download but I don't even get that far. Basically nothing happens.

    Thanks all.

I believe it to be flash but since im not in the UK cant find out. Sorry.

Great news. :) As Zigzag said, it's something to do with Flash, and how the content on the site is delivered.

I had a similar problem, I'd see the "barbers pole", then see 'Install BBC iplayer", and when selecting it, nothing happended except more "barbers pole". In my case, I already had Adobe AIR installed. I uninstalled Adobe AIR, then started again with the bbc iplayer, which then installed Adobe AIR and then installed correctly. I recommend you do the same, looks like iplayer doesn't necessarily like it if Adobe AIR has already been installed. It worked for me, having gone round in circles, various forums etc.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry, meant to say it seems odd that other forum entries suggest installing Adobe AIR first. From my observations, this caused the problem. c'est la vie, just reporting my observation and trying to help.

Thanks Pkellow. I resolved this by downloading Adobe Air before installing iPlayer. Adobe Air was not previously installed. I sent a message to the BBC technicians but I didn't receive a response. All seems to work quite well at present.
