Windows Live Messenger Crashes at Startup

I've seen other posts related to this, but I haven't seen any with a solution. I just bought a new Dell 64-bit Windows 7 Professional computer. So Windows Live Messenger (WLM) is a default install on Windows 7.

The first time I booted up, WLM crashed. And now, most of the time I start up the computer Windows Live Messenger crashes. Any ideas how to fix this?

    Hi knoxbury,

Try taking WLM out of the Startup list (type "msconfig" in the Start menu search bar), rebooting, then starting the program manually. What happens then?

Sometimes is works manually, sometimes it doesn't . . . but I don't want to manually start WLM on my BRAND NEW computer! That's a downgrade.

Yeah I hear ya, you shouldn't need to manually do it. Try this: completely uninstall Windows Live Messenger from your PC and redownload it here: Essentials - Windows Live (you can selectively install elements of the Essentials package from the Installer)

Let me know if that helps.
