Skype does want to show it's icon on the toobar. You can right click the icon to raise the context menu and select "Quit Skype" to stop the app. You should be able to just left click on the Skype icon to start it. If it's already running it also puts an icon in the 'system tray' area. You might have to open the Notifications flag to see the icon.

Maybe try uninstalling Skype then rebooting ?

If you want Skype try installating it again after that.

End the process in task manager and then try to open it again.

Right Click Taskbar > Task Manager
Go to Processes Tab
Find anything to do with skype, end the processes.
Now attempt to open skype again.

I have the exact same problem!!! I cant quit it by right clicking it on the task bar or by clicking the quit action in the Skype window.

The only way i can quit is by doing this. I have had this problem for months.

I would go into Control Panel click on Program and Features and uninstall Skype from there.
Once done then go to Search and type in skype.com and download the program from its online site.
That's what I did and my Skype works great!
I am not a certified tech but have been there and done that.
