    Getting Rid of Ask.com toolbar installation


    I downloaded the latest foxit pdf reader which has an option to install the ask.com toolbar. I unchecked the boxes so it wouldn't install and it still installed - installed a folder in the X86 programs folder and WinPatrol kept coming up with a window about it wanted to install (and I checked no - but in a short while it would come up again and again). The only way I could completely get rid of it was to do a System Restore.

    I had the same problem with another program I downloaded and tried to install and finally had to do a System Restore to get rid of it as ask.com installed itself even though I had unchecked the option to install and even Revo uninstaller couldn't uninstall it. I couldn't install the program because of the ask.com garbage.

    Is there another way to dump the intrusive ask.com when installing a program that has that option? I don't want to have to manually edit the registry to get rid of it.

    How do I uninstall the Toolbar?


    You can easily uninstall the Toolbar using the instructions below for Windows XP:


    1. Close all open Web browsers
    2. From the "Start" menu in Windows, select "Control Panel"
    3. Select "Add/Remove Programs"
    4. Select the program with the Ask logo and the text "Ask Toolbar" (or our partner’s brand for a custom Toolbar)
    5. Click "Change/Remove"


    You can easily uninstall the Toolbar using the instructions below for Windows Vista:


    1. Close all open Web browsers
    2. From the "Start" menu in Windows, select "Control Panel"
    3. Under the "Programs" icon, select "Uninstall a program"
    4. Select the program with the Ask logo and the text "Ask Toolbar" (or our partner’s brand for a custom Toolbar)
    5. Click "Uninstall" and then "Continue" to remove the Toolbar


    If you reopen your Web browser and still see the Toolbar, you may need to restart your computer for the uninstall process to be completed.

    I am sorry to say that sometimes your choice not to install ASK or GOOGLE never work ..scandal really .. you still can remove it the normal way from add/remove and delete the folder in Program files an program datasometime the registery as well .. I know it is a pain but what can we do ???

    The first time it installed itself I couldn't get rid of it with the Windows "Uninstall a program" or with the Revo Uninstaller, I had to use System Restore. This second time, it wasn't listed in the programs list so I couldn't even try to install it with the Windows or Revo uninstallers.

    The toolbar is not actually showing up in Internet Explorer's add on list, but it did show up in FireFox so the listed instructions from Crispy are not applicable in this case. If it were that simple I would have taken care of it.

    I got a workaround for foxit, I got a private link with a "one time" download without the ask garbage attached.

I always keep an eye out for unwanted add ons when installing anything, but somehow this toolbar got past me. I found nothing in Programs And Features, but there was a folder labeled Search Toolbar in the Program Files(x86) folder, which had an uninstaller, which I used, yet the toolbar remains on...
