    Adobe Photoshop 5

I tried searching your forum but most people seem to be running CS4 or CS3. Unfortunately, I am running an older version of Photoshop. I just purchased Win 7 Pro 64 Bits this weekend and I seem to be failing at getting certain programs to even install. Adobe Photoshop 5 is one of these programs.

Does anyone know how to get this program to install under this platform? Thank you in advance.

    Hi there,

You could try installing it using Compatibility Mode, as explained here: Compatibility Mode

Let me know if that helps at all.

    Cheers,

I right clicked on the icon and set the compatibility mode to run in Windows XP SP2. I also tried Win98. Both fail and produce the same message.

    Error Message said:
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
    Anyone else have any ideas?

That's odd. Are you trying to install the 32 bit version of Photoshop or the 64 bit version?

I have Adobe Photoshop 5 - an old version compared to what's available now - so I'm assuming its 32 bit.

Oh damn, I thought you meant CS5.

I'm going to guess that it's not compatible, since it doesn't show up anywhere on the Windows 7 compatiblity list. Compatibility Photoshop 5

If Compatibility mode isn't working, I would suggest installing it in Windows XP mode and see if that works.

Nice suggestion. As it is Pro, you can easily use XP mode. Install PS there

    A couple questions for you.

I have never used virtual PC. I have no idea what it is really. Am I partioning my drive and rebooting the comp each time I want to switch platforms? I really dont want to install anything like this.

If not, I'm assuming both platforms are kinda running at one time. How easy is it to switch platforms and how much of my system resources does it take to run both?

    Sorry for the noob questions.

Virtual PC runs inside your Windows installation, so they are both running at the same time. You can run XP mode inside a window, and switch back and forth between it and 7 as you need too. No rebooting or anything necessary.

Here's a tutorial for you: Seven Forums XP Mode Tutorial
