Programs disappearing after a few secs of opening it

    Hey guys,

i encountered a problem a few days ago. some programs, such as divx installer and half-life would open after double-clicking it and disappear after a few seconds without the program starting fully. i tried opening the program again and looking it up while it load on the task manager, but it only showed under the memory tab that the program would hang at a certain value and close without the value changing. I tried reinstalling the programs but to no avail, it remained the same.

Another 2 problems i need help with are that mozilla firefox v3 is using alot of CPU, with 10 tabs using 200000k CPU and lagging my computer. i had currently switch to chrome in the meantime to access the internet.

The 3rd problem is that some programs, such as counterstrike and Left4Dead2 keep changing automatically into chinese, whereas when it is copied into another computer it is in english. I had previously changed the system locale into Chinese(PRC) to read chinese programs, but even after changing it back into english and reinstalling the programs, they still installed as chinese.

Hope u guys could help me solve either these 3 problems...by the way this is an F81S Asus laptop bought 1 month ago. I did a hijackthis log and it showed :

    Thx again.

P.S. btw my laptop is actually a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Basic upgraded/downgraded to a 32-bit Windows 7 Enterprise for compatibility with school programs.
First problem. Go into event viewer by typing eventvwr in search. Go to the windows log>application tab

Look for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that have app hang, app crash, or anything related.

When you find them (and you will) note the event ID and source codes and relay them to us.

second problem. How many addons are you using in firefox? I would try launching firefox in safe mode (without addons) and see how much memory it uses.

Third problem---DO you have a backup from before the problems started that we can restore from?

I do wonder if you only have 2 gigs of ram how can firefox use 2 gigs of ram. Something not right there

    Ken

    Description:
Communicator could not connect securely to server sip.myrp.edu.sg because the certificate presented by the server was not trusted due to validation error 0x80090328. The issuing certificate authority (CA) for the server's certificate may not be locally trusted by the client, the certificate may be revoked, or the certificate may have expired.

     Resolution:
A tool like winerror.exe from the Windows Resource Kit or lcserror.exe from the Office Communications Server Resource Kit can be used in order to interpret the error code listed above. If you trust the server certificate, the issuing certificate authority (CA) certificate can be placed in the local trusted root certificate authorities certificate store. If you have logged into the server before without issues the network administrator should carefully examine the certificate if no known configuration changes have been made.

Firefox working at 80000 K memory( i think K is just the unit and doesnt mean thousand) in safe mode....used only 2 extensions and 10 plugins with safe mode disabled.

I do saved backup files for system restore, but strangely, they kept getting deleted. I had 7 restore points yesterday, but after checking just only, i found that i only left the system restore point i did yesterday.
