7Zip Context Menu Items Don't Appear

I'm having the same issue - running Windows 7 x64 and 7Zip 9.11 Beta (64 bit version). None of the 7Zip options appear in the context (right-click) menu. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that didn't solve the problem. Would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

I know this thread is old, but I ran into the same problem and found that I had the 32 bit version installed on my 64 bit version of Windows 7. Once I reinstalled using the 64 bit version of 7zip the right click menu appeared.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing with WinRAR. Installed the 64-Bit version, and the context menu appeared. I felt like such a dope.

Thanks for the reply Madeira. That was one of the things I checked first. It was the 64 bit version. Kind of a moot point now though - I've moved on to WinRAR. Thanks again though.

I installed 7-zip 64 bit on my 64 bit Windows 7 machine and I had problems with it also. After installing, I noticed that the icons for zip files (as well as all other archive files) were still set to their system default. I went to 7zip's options menu (Tools > Options) and sure enough, everything was unchecked. I clicked all the archive files I wanted to select and pressed the OK button... Still nothing. I closed 7zip... still no change. I reopened it and reopened the options menu only to find all of the checkboxes were unchecked again.

I ended up uninstalling the 64 bit version and installing the 32 bit version of 7zip on my machine. This actually solved the problem with the file associations, but the context menu wasn't working. It hasn't been working at all on this machine, either using the 32 bit or the 64 bit. I decided to do some investigation and I found this forum. I switched back to the 64 bit version just now and, as I predicted, it was not associated with the files again, and sure enough, the context menu wasn't available.

Now, for some reason, something occurred to me while reading this forum. I closed 7-zip and went to my start menu and right clicked on it and selected the option to run as administrator. I then went into the options menu and set the file associations as well as the context menu. Lo and behold, when I clicked OK, everything was set just like it should have been. All of the file associations were set to how I wanted them and the context menu now works.

So, apparently, the problem isn't the question of if you are running a 32 bit version on a 64 bit OS, but rather if, while changing options, you have enough permissions to change them.

Hi,

If you have 32 bit version of Win7 then you need to install 32 bit version of 7zip then you will have the menu.

If your windows is 64 bit then you need 64 bit version of 7zip, again you will have the context menu

However, if you install 32 bit version of 7zip on 64bit version windows7 then you will not have context menu at all

It is that simple.

7-zip version issue

Hi,
I think it might be that you installed a 32bit 7-zip onto Windows 7 64bit system.
Be sure to download the 64 bits version of 7-zip if you have windows 7 64bit.

Before installing a new version of 7-zip, uninstall all 7-zip applications.
It will help reduce system files confusion.

Hope this help someone.

Hi All -

For any source of puzzlement with context-menus, for many many years I have relied on ShellXview from NIRsoft. ShellExView - Shell Extension Manager For Windows . It will quickly show all the context menu handlers and allow you to selectively enable or disable them. If you are having unexplained or bizarre problems with Explorer crashes, slow or odd behavior when deleting icons, this is the program to use for quick divide-and-conquer. For example, I've been using it to disable the 7Zip context menues while I wait for a version that does not cause Explorer problems with 64-bit Win7.

Hope this helps someone.
