iTunes 64-bit 9.1.1.11 Ran fine ONE time, stopped

I see several threads that reflect trouble between Win7 64-bit and iTunes 64-bit but most are too old to be reliable, so I'm posting afresh.
My rig is Windows 7 Ultimate running on an HP DC7600, 4gb.

Two days ago downloaded and ran iTunessetup64.exe, ver 9.1.1.11 from apple.
It gave no hiccups in the install. When running I pointed it to my old music stash from previous system - NTFS file system setup as Drive E:
It did a fine job of converting/adding all that stuff.
The trouble started when it tried to sync with my iPod, read it oK, but then needed to login to the iTunes store and I did not immediately have my password etc. It just stopped. didn't give any error codes that I know of.

Since then, if I try to fire it up, I get the 'run' indicator [the little wheel in my case] but nothing else. No screen ever comes up. I'm a little reluctant to monkey with it much without some guidance from one of you smartguys.

Could someone give me the steps/process?

p.s. The way that the program loaded itself under 7 seems amiss to me. part of the files in the "(x86)" bin and part in the other Program Data folder. Secondly, when I browse for the shortcut in the normal way: Start>AllPrograms>iTunes>iTunes, the location of that iTunes 'button' is pointing to a Windows 7 Installer folder, temporary designation [the string of random digits].
When I run the Windows 7 Compatibility wizard, it suggests Compatibility under Windows XP SP2.... ???? huh?

there is a post on an Apple forum that claims iTunes is not 64 bit, that the application itself is the same regardless, but has "some drivers" that are compiled as 64bit in the 64bit installer type.
Should i just uinstall this pig and start over with the 32 bit installer?

    Itunes Installation

Hello Zapp, welcome to the Windows 7 Support Forums.
The issue you describe "Itunes failure to launch/Load/Sync" is know to us and we have seen Apple play catchup to Windows 7 especially x64 versions over the life of the beta test and the final release. Since you have either a corrupted install/password failure etc. it is necessary to remove all Apple products including Quick time/Apple Mobile/Bonjour. Also all apple services and apple usb drivers must be removed. Depending on your skill level will determine the ease of the process. On a sidebar, you commented on the Itunes 64 bit program as being X86, while this is partly true the actual process of installing on your system relies on two processes which are the actual installer, which is X64 and the Itunes.exe which resides in the X86.
NB: during the re-install process do not have your I-Device attached to your system, do not attempt any importation of any previous music library, also any music files contained in your music libraries that have been obtained other than Itunes may corrupt the program.
As always, [lease report back your results so that we can mark this issue as resolved or to continue troubleshooting.
