Office 2003 and win 7 x64 Problem !SLOW!

    Hey guys,

couldn't find this problem anywhere on the net, so i thought i'd make a thread. i've been searching up and down everywhere and everybody seems to have similar but slightly different problems so here i go:

whenever i open anything from microsoft office 2003, that can be outlook, that can be a word document, that can be a powerpoint presentation or an excel sheet, my windows 7 taskbar and the computer in general slow down considerably, but ESPECIALLY the taskbar lags for at least 3 seconds whatever i do (like moving the pointer over several icons so that the aero-thingy shows up takes 5 seconds to pop up the little windows or opening a new explorer window).

so when did it all start? at first everything was fine, office 2003 was running fine with w7x64, then i installed the cisco system vpn client (64bit of course) because i need it for university. after that the problem occured and i haven't been able to make it go away since then.

    now
    1. i deinstalled the vpn client -> no changes
    2. i deinstalled office 2003 and reinstalled -> no changes
    3. office is updated with the latest patch -> no changes
    4. tried to turn of aero (who knows?) -> no changes

    system in general:
    cpu: core i 7 920
memory: 6 gig ram 1333 tripple channel
    HDD: 640gb western digital aals
    PSU: enermax modu 82+ 625w
    graphic: geforce gtx 260
    mainboard: gigabyte ga-ex-ud5

has anybody experienced something similar and can help me, i'm devastated right now since it's been going on for like 3 months and i can't get rid of the problem and i don't wanna cleanly install w7x64 again (although i'll do it if i must).

    Greets,

    J

It would be easier if we knew what kind of hardware you have (cpu, ram, etc) but it may be Office is paging out to a HD page file. There are so many things to look at we are going to have to wait for more info sorry.

Re: Clean re-install, I suspect you would have the same problem then.

    'course, sorry forgot that

    cpu: core i 7 920
memory: 6 gig ram 1333 tripple channel
    HDD: 640gb western digital aals
    PSU: enermax modu 82+ 625w
    graphic: geforce gtx 260
    mainboard: gigabyte ga-ex-ud5

    as said win7 x64

what is a clean reinstall with outlook? a normal uninstall via windows uninstall and then reinstall resulted in still the same problem, yes.

    thx again.

is there nobody who can help? would be much appreciated!

well since nobody wanted to help me , i just went and bought office 2007, and everything runs just fine with this version. so whatever the cause may have been, it was definitely a problem with office 2003.
hope this helps somebody else. greets.

with office 2007 after one week of using it, i encountered a similar but slightly altered problem: word 2007 now crashes the user interface of windows media player. task bar is working just fine, other office programmes work just fine. so everythings fine but media player and word won't work together (haha). AND the problem seems to be a programme called "endnote". endnote + word + x64 OS kills things. greets. no solution yet, but the problem is minor

I'm having the exact issue with Office 2007 running on Windows 7 64-bit, i7 CPU. I also have a user with i7 windows 64-bit laptop and same issue. When she opens a 2003 Word document the entire Windows slows down heavily. I'm thinking it might be the i7 issue. So far I have no clue how to tackle this issue.
