I used to use this software alongside Oracle to communicate about ongoing projects and keep track of them with engineers when I worked at UL. Out of curiosity, what would a typical home user find this of use for?

    regular e-mailing?

lol like 2 years ago I tried to get this to play with, couldn't find it anywhere and forgot about it.

I use it for email and to play around with lol.... never hurts to know more then just Office 2007 lol
I had it on a old 40GB HDD that still has XP on it and thought I would test it in Windows 7...

I have been using the embedded web browser in Lotus and wow... really surprised how well it works so far and I like the fact it auotmatically imported my IE favs.
here's a link if interested but I think it is only a 90 day trial thing:

It's always good to have Office 2010 and Lotus Notes 8.5. If Outlook crashes, you always have a backup.

    Hi all

Lotus Notes --One of the WORST EVER programs -- only people like IBM would even THINK of using this these days -- IBM used to be a great company with really innovative hardware and great inventions coming out of their laboratories in Ploughkeepsie and elsewhere.

After they got out of Hardware -- abandoning the old "Big Blue" mainframe systems and even the old Thinkpad -- now made by Lenovo-- they are now really nothing more than one of those HORRIBLE consultancy type firms who just hang around any possible IT project like wasps around a jamjar.

I've seen a number of SAP projects where they absolutely KILL it -- a particular evil this company employs is to "hood wink" the Client into accepting large number of "consultants" as "No Charge Features" which allows their staff to try and learn skills on a clients site at no cost -- meanwhile if you are employed by another firm on this site you can't get your work done properly because of the nuisance values of these "No Charge" features spending the whole day just talking, getting in the way and doing nothing --thereby generally making a nuisance of themselves.

I used to think "Accenture" (or "Accidenture" as we call it) were the worst but these days pride of place must go to IBM -- sad to see a once really great company who had the most innovative systems and people on the planet being reduced to this type of farce.

I can give many chapter and verse situations of IBM "screwing up"-- a big one is in S. Wales in the UK at the DVLA.

    Cheers

yeah, notes odes blow a good one. But alas it is the email system at my current job and i have installed 8.5 at home and work. I'm the Notes Admin's pet monkey when it comes to new releases as i don't care about my email so much. LOL. Some issues with the 8.5 client though. it is not saving the sorting of my email in a couple of my custom folders? Hell it could be all of the folders for all i know. but it does works fine in Win7. A vista feature that I do not like so far, is the "learning" it needs to do for Notes8 is ridiculous. I've installed the program about 5 days ago and it is STILL slow as hell when navigating through email and different views. Honestly what's this needs to LEARN notes 8 and how much memory it needs to use (my notes admin words). Shouldn't it just launch and WORK? not Lotus Notes.

I am facing a strange problem with Lotus Notes 8.5 on Win 7 - If I press the backspace key (for eg. to delete something in a mail i am typing) Notes Crashes at once. Have reinstalled and rechecked everything many times. Doesn't happen in Win XP nor even in Linux but happens everytime in Win 7.

Has anyone ever faced such an issue with LN ?

Client Memory Needed to Run Windows 7 and Notes 8?

I'm getting some memory messages in Notes 8 and was wondering whether 4GB of RAM is enough when you also have Windows 7.

    Thanks!
