Microsoft SQL 2005 installation Errors in Win 7 x32

[This post has dual intent. (i) to solve my problem; (ii) to provide a complete solution to other users with common issues they will face in the installation of SQL 2005 Server on Windows 7 x32.]

I am running a Windows 7 (32 bit) OS, and I am attempting to install Microsoft SQL 2005. I am encountering several problems, namely that the Management Studio doesn't install.

    Problem I: IIS Errors. Resolved.
When I first began the installation, I enountered an error informing me that the IIS feature was either not installed or not enabled. I went into the Control Panel/Turn on off Windows Features, then under IIS I have enabled the following options:

    Internet Information Services
    --FTP Server
    ----FTP Extensibility
    ----FTP Service
    Web Management Tools
    --II6 Management Compatibility
    ----II6 WMI Compatibility
----II6 Metabase and IIS Configuration Compatibility
    World Wide Web Service
    --Application Development Features
    ----.NET Extensibility
    ----ASP.NET
    ----ISAPI Extensions
    ----ISAPI Filters
    --Common HTTP Features
    ----Default Document
    ----Directory Browsing
    ----HTTP Redirection
    ----Static Content
    Security
    --Request Filtering
    --Windows Authentication
Internet Information Services Hostable Web Core

I have IIS v.6 installed, and while I'm aware that v.7 is available, I have not upgraded. (At least one forum recommended I retain v.6).

Problem II: Management Studio Doesn't Install.

    First Install.
I previously had the free version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (Express). Then, I uninstalled the Express version using the Control Panel/Remove Program feature to uninstall. My first attempt to install SQL Server 2005 failed because of the IIS error, or so I thought. The install didn't even ask me to insert CD II. So, I uninstalled SQL using the same method. I did some research on the IIS issue, made the changes noted above, and I thought all my problems were resolved.

    Second Install.
I again attempted an installation, I didn't receive the IIS error, and it again didn't install the Management Studio. And, it still didn't request that I insert CD II. I uninstalled. At this point, I realize I'm probably making an ugly mess out my registry and have scattered fragments of files all over the place.

    Third Install.
I read some forum postings again, and I realized that I missed installing the Service Pack 3 (SP3). I installed the Native Client first. Then, I installed SP3. Then, I began my installation of the SQL Server 2005. I read on another forum not to install the Reporting Services, because it would cause other errors. No IIS error, and the install DID request CD II. (I thought, ALAS! It will surely install now....) The install went relatively fine, but I received two errors and Management Studio did not install.

The two services that "failed" during install were:
    (1) Visual Studio integrated Development
    (2) Workstation Components, Books Online

    Proposed Solution to Problem B
I am really tired of installing, unintstalling and reinstalling. At this point I am considering uninstalling and then running a new install from the command prompt, because there were previous versions and may be some inner-computing confusion. I am advised (via another Forum) to install using the following line:

    E:\>Setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1

Please let me know if I'm on the right track, or if I'm missing something huge.

Please do not ask me if my computer is plugged in. It is. ... anything else, I may have missed, though. :)

    Thank you.

    Hey
Same problem here.I tried installing SQL Server 2005 Developer edition, but installation fails half way(it says something like "failed to start SQL database services automatically").I click cancel,it continuos to install. At the end, database engine, reporting and integration services fail to install. The Management studio is missing, all i see is the Visual Studio.
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling(using "arpwrapper.exe /remove" in cmd prompt) several times, still nothing....

When i was searching on google,i came across website that said something about "cpu prefetch missing" being an issue. Another thing is that your CPU is the new Intel i3,mine is i7,is it something to do with new cpu's.?
