I have a 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager laying around. I have so much space on it I figured why not put some Linux love on that baby.

    Which do you recomend?

I am not a Ubuntu enthusiast and would urge you to go for Linux Mint (includes all commonly used codecs/plugins/programs including Flash.)

If you don't feel you like Linux Mint (how can you not??) then Fedora is the only other main stram option I will recommend.

In my opinion Ubuntu is aimed at Windows Users wanting a Second OS with out too much hassle, hence Wubi (which don't get me wrong is a wonderful piece of software but it takes away from the true Linux experience which includes all those annoying bootloader problems etc.)

Not that I'm pressuring you into Linux Mint or anything but look at:

Run Linux Mint 9 from a USB Flash Drive (Windows) | USB Pen Drive Linux

and Linux Mint 9 "Isadora" - Gnome DVD (32-bit) - Linux Mint.

    There's your instructions sorted .

I used to be an Ubuntu user until I saw Linux Mint. It's much better and is easier to use out of the box because it includes codecs and plugins that Ubuntu doesn't by default. Both Ubuntu and Linux Mint have the option of installing themselves to a flash drive from within themselves.

From Windows, I would recommend UNetBootin, which supports dozens of versions of Linux for Flash-drive installation. Make sure to make the installation persistent, meaning it keeps track of all of your changes.

Dreamlinux is also a good choice: http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/portable.html
    And Slax.

Linux is changing, come take a look.

Especially with Google coming onto the scene and people buying cheaper and cheaper computers and wanting cheaper and cheaper (but still quality) products to go on them, Linux's market share can only go up :).

I can see in several years that Linux based netbooks will hold an even more substantial market share than they do now and the amount of webservers that run Linux will sore!!
Heck even I'm going Linux later this year for my webserver!

You guys who love Linux Mint, but don't like Ubuntu...do realize that Mint is simply a respin of Ubuntu with some of the multimedia stuff included, right????

    You can easily add the multimedia into Ubuntu 10.04 with;
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin

    sudo apt-get install vlc
    sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
And that is pretty much it. Really not bad when you look at it.
