As far as I know the fastest anyone has been able to make their computer reach the desktop from a complete shut off is like 24 seconds or something.

Sleep mode is going to be your best bet.

Or, if saving power isn't a big deal for you, you can always turn off any power saver options and just turn off your monitor, that would be the absolute FASTEST way :)
i don't like to leave computer plugged in as i have been hit by lightning before and lost everything even though i had a surge protector, i first just wanted to change the welcome screen picture so i downloaded logonstudio vista and changed the picture to some rocks with water running over them but decided i did not like it so i tried to remove the program all together but the picture is still there and i can not find out how to get rid of it.
Look at the yellow tip box in this tutorial, it will tell you how to get the default

    one back.

Not quite sure what you mean, you're responding right here, or are you talking

    about something else?

If the above help did not fix the problem Your next post should be something like this; Thank you everyone but this did not solve the problem.

If it did fix the problem it should be; thank you every one the problem has been fixed ( then tell them what advice fixed the problem so as someone with the same problem can try it).

This forum has a Rep system where you can allocate points to the person you think gave you good advice.

you know i just thought about something, i have seen where you can put your own picture on the welcome screen somehow and i could just make a picture of a black screen and put that on then it would at least look like it was bypassing the welcome screen. the reason i don't like seeing these other screens is because it is just like all the tv channels now a days how they put their logos on the screen in one corner and make you have to see it even if you don't want to.

Well your not losing any time with the picture.

If your impattient enough, get our self an SSD. Boot times are like 10 seconds less than with a regular drive. :)

In fact my two W7 machines with SSDs boot so fast it's like it's coming out of hibernation (Not as fast as slep of course) but still, fast enough that it's really nothing. Course the BIOS still eats 10-12 seconds

And just FYI, none of the pictures or splash screens (Except for possibly the F2 splash in the BIOS) are taking any time away from the booting. They aren;t slowing anything down, windows is booting in the background so even with no images it would not noticably speed anything up.
