Looks like a corrupted install package. Try DLing again.
Your title indicates that you are installing visual studio itself but this is just one of the CRT/MFC runtime library packages being installed. (A requirement ofr some programs like Blender that come without installers)
I know I installed it in order to ues Blender. I'm pretty sure it was the same version, but I'd have to check when I get home. Are you DLing it directly from Microsoft?
Download details: Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
Yes - from Microsoft.
The AutoCad viewer I'm trying to install - AutoDesk Design Review - is supposed to install it, but can't get through it either.
Hmm, try installing with admin privs? Right click exe and run as administrator?
try rebooting your system, then install.
