    Problems deleting files/folders

    Hi folks

Hoping you can help with what I feels like a simple problem, but very frustrating.

the problem exists around deleting folders succession; I'm cleaning up my music collection, so I'm deleting folders containing MP3 files. I delete the first folder no issue, but I try to delete the next and get the error "the action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program". However if I leave it five minutes then I can delete that second folder, but if I try to delete a third the problem occurs till another five minutes .... and on and on. on some occasions I have been able to delete two folders in succession but never more.

I have tried starting in safe mode, suspending windows indexing and stopping processes in succession - no luck so far.

I contacted Dell support who were very confident it was a virus and if I paid the warranty charge they could definitely fix it, but I felt a little suspect about this. Never the less I have run AVG scan on the PC and anti-spyware for good measure. Again no solution.

I am running windows seven on a dell studio 15.

Try downloading and scanning with malwarebytes.

If nothing is found, try deleting with a clean boot.

    i really don't think it's a malware problem.

i used to have this problem with winamp, my music player of choice.

whilst trying to organise my music collection, i would listen to a track within a folder, decide the whole folder should be moved into my 'hip hop' directory, but i would get the same message as you did - i think winamp kept a reference to the file somewhere in its history list, or in recent items - even once you had exited winamp.

a reboot always worked for me in that situation - does it not work for you?
