    Vlite Help / Reques

Hello everyone I currently run Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (got a great deal on it) and am planning to buy a Intel x25-m 80GB SSD drive soon and I want to fix my install to free up dead space.

I am a total novice and very little FAQ but how does this look. Anyone notice problems? I cut just about half the size which not sure what that will translate over to. Gonna install on a old IDE drive to see how it fairs.

Well after toying with it some I have a new question.

Is there a detailed guide on vlite / windows 7 on EXACTLY what each item does vs the small detail you get in vlite? I am getting the general idea but on a lot of stuff I am not 100% sure if its smart/safe to disable.

I can tell you now that is absolutely pointless. I was one of those user that would run Vista though vlite. However, it quickly became apparent that it did nothing but break things. Some you would not even notice until a critical moment like installing a new security update. In the long run there was nothing gained but a few megabytes of space, whooopeee....

    * Windows 7 is in the same boat as Vista. Which btw, vlite has not been updated for a long time now. Very little promise that vlite will even work with Windows 7.

I used to have vlited vista home premium on an ancient machine and I remember being impressed with how well it ran. The major space savings came from, IIRC, removing the printer and TV tuner drivers, welcome center, languages, system restore and sample audio/ video files.

Vlite reportedly works well for win7 as well though there have been instances of the burned disk not working. In fact, I did make a win7 lite with vlite, so the process works. But I havent yet tried installing from it. You can also explore 7lite (a replacement for vlite).

You'll need to research the stuff you want removed, component by component. Regarding services, Blackviper has a great site with wiki links explaining each service.

For other components, explore at MSFN- they are a great resource for customization projects.

Well thanks for the replies. I found out how vlite can screw up the OS when I installed a version I made that removed so many things that windows cried :P Is there a better program btw then vlite for new OS?
However I been using this for the past 32 hours and other then 1 update that fails to update (not 100% sure its windows fault) its been stable and no issues reported. I mostly wanted to gut the crap I never use to save me time removing it.

My end .ini is this. If there are any red flags I would very much appreciate any advice/critique.

Even if Vlite breaks the install the fact I wont ever need to spend 20 minutes editing my services again or put my login/pass etc again is priceless to me.

For those curious my end install was 12.5GB which if its true that x64 7 ultimate is 20GB is a good free up of space + all the crap I usually disable are now done via install vs manually :)

Will keep you all posted if I run into issues (for any google users that are like me)
