    Defrag applications question

The question I have is, the Defrag supplied with windows, does it work well enough or should I opt for a different one?

If you are using a different one then the default, can you recommend which one might be better?

    Thanx

The one that comes with 7 is more than good enough. Defrag after several installs or uninstalls, or every 3 months. Change the default, which is much more often.

This one is also very good

+1 for what Rich says. Do not defrag too often. That is heavy duty work for the disks and produces alot of wear and tear. Depending on how much you write on the disk, every 2, 4 or 6 weeks should be enough. And NEVER defrag a SSD.

This has been asked here over a hundred times already.

No, you do not need to worry about defragging anymore. Windows 7 does it automatically once a week.

Change that default to less often.

    Thank you all.

That confirms my suspicions, I thought Windows 7 was doing something like that, considering that when I did go to defrag, it showed very low, if any, fragmentation.

richc46, I have seen sites that recommend you defrag once a week, but I never could see the sense of having to put the HD through that every week if you don't add/remove a bunch of files.

Trust me, constant defrag is rough on the hard drive. You can test how much of the hard drive needs to be defrag, with the system built into 7. Less than 10% forget about it.

ANALYZE if you have to defrag. Read step 3
