    Open Office function help needed.

So I have a spreadsheet that I need to get some data out of.

There are two columns in one sheet lined up as such

    Type ____ Amount
    Type 1 ___ 16.00
    Type 2 ___ 22.00
    Type 2 ___ 01.50
    Type 1 ___ 20.00
    Type 1 ___ 10.00
    Type 1 ___ 15.00
    Type 2 ___ 60.00

Is there a way to use the Type (Type1) to get a sum of all Type1 amounts?

Posted this yesterday.... Anyone have any Ideas.

Maybe a similar function in Excel will work the same in OOo?

You should be able to use the SUMIF function to sum cells matching certain conditions. The page below explains better than me.

OpenOffice Calc 3.x - Count and sum cells that match conditions: COUNTIF and SUMIF

You can google for SUMIF - countless results.

I had looked at SUMIF previously, but I didn't understand what to do with it...

So my example's function since there are columns A, B and Rows 1-8 with Row 1 as headers would be
    =SUMIF(A2:A8; "Type 1"; B2:B8)

For further info can I use an "OR" statement in there as well =SUMIF(A2:A8; "Type 1" OR "Type 3; B2:B8)

Well, it would be logical that I could also do it as such =SUMIF(A2:A8; "Type 1"; B2:B8)+SUMIF(A2:A8; "Type 3; B2:B8)

I will try this out as well.

OK Awesome stuff Bill. That is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks.
