    VirtualBox 2.1 Released

As a avid fan of vmware i happy to see that another developer going in graphics acceleration support and the support of 64-bit guest in a 32-bit host so here comes Virtualbox

*Support for hardware virtualization (VT-x and AMD-V) on Mac OS X hosts

*Support for 64-bit guests on 32-bit host operating systems (experimental; see user manual, chapter 1.6, 64-bit guests, page 16)

*Added support for Intel Nehalem virtualization enhancements (EPT and VPID; see user manual, chapter 1.2, Software vs. hardware virtualization (VT-x and AMD-V), page 10))

*Experimental 3D acceleration via OpenGL (see user manual, chapter 4.8, Hardware 3D acceleration (OpenGL), page 66)

*Experimental LsiLogic and BusLogic SCSI controllers (see user manual, chapter 5.1, Hard disk controllers: IDE, SATA (AHCI), SCSI, page 70)

*Full VMDK/VHD support including snapshots (see user manual, chapter 5.2, Disk image files (VDI, VMDK, VHD), page 72)

*New NAT engine with significantly better performance, reliability and ICMP echo (ping) support (bugs #1046, #2438, #2223, #1247)

*New Host Interface Networking implementations for Windows and Linux hosts with easier setup (replaces TUN/TAP on Linux and manual bridging on Windows)

I've been an avid fan of VirtualBox for quite some time, but sadly I've had no success installing in Win7, the installer stops half way through the installation with a pop up saying the installation has stopped.

Has anyone else had any luck with this app?

My attempted install was in Win7 Ultimate 64.

I was able to install Win7 in VirtualBox, when trying to do a test. I only booted into it once, and then deleted it - but if it's any help, my host OS was Win7 as well.

I am using VBox for XP, Vista, Solaris 2008.5 (anxiously awaiting the 2008.11 disc) and then plan on adding Gentoo and Xubuntu.

Ran the app again in Vista Ultimate 64 and it installed fine, but no joy in Win7 Ultimate 64.

Grrr - since it is an MSI there is no way to run it in compatibility mode.

I'll have to install Vista again to get those machines I had up previously.....

there is a way to debug and try to make it work..
    but...
    why bother...
the beta will come closer and closer and then it wont be worth it...

@ john i actually have the msi log files but like i said why bother, ill just wait till they release a w7 version
but if anyone wants to see them just say so and ill upload them

just to give you hint its a error 1603 (event viewer)...

    Hello all.

Now that I have an OS (Vista 64-bit Ultimate) capable of this, I'm going to try it out; any advice?

    1. Have separate drives
    2. move the location of stored Virtual Disks to the second drive
    3. Install 1 OS at a time (as in get one working *completely* before you start fiddling with another one)
    4. Make sure you have Virtualization Extensions (AMD-V or Intel-VT, depending upon your CPU) enabled in your BIOS - it makes life a *lot* easier
    5. Dual monitors is a nice bonus - I can (in Vista - I suppose I should now say I *could*) run one OS on one screen and the Virtual one on the other, and they would be seamlessly integrated - mouse could move from on to the other without any hitches, etc.

If you are not sure about Virtualization technology being enabled or not, I have a very small ISO that can check it for you if you have an Intel CPU - let me know.

SecureAble can also do the same...
without having to restart the system
it will also tell you if your CPU is 64 compatible and if it if has Hardware DEP
    and its 115 kb....lol
even in dialup thats only a few seconds...lol
