Speakers on my laptop stopped working

This is my first time posting so I hope I'm doing this right. Anyway, the last time my speakers were functioning properly I was watching a movie when my battery ran out. I quickly plugged in the AC adapter and booted my computer up again and that's when the speakers stopped working.

Strangely enough the sound works if I plug in my headphones. I've made sure the speakers aren't muted and all that other stuff so what could the problem be? I believe I have a Realtek sound card and the drivers are up to date last I checked. I'd greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks you for the input but there was no change. As a matter of fact, the weird part is that the troubleshooter says the device is working as it should yet I get no audio. Any other suggestions from anyone out there?

Right click on the Microsoft speaker icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, what device has is selected as the default output device? (green checkmark)

Thank you but something strange happened...my computer restarted on its own after it installed some updates and the damn speakers started working again. Very strange since I had already restarted it once with no change. Thanks again everyone.
