50% CPU, where's the rest gone?

I'm having a weird issue with Realtek driver on my Vaio. It looks sometimes it just uses the 100% of one of the cores in my dual core CPU. I can only detect it when I feel the slowness. And then I sort by CPU utilization in the task manager. One of the processes take 50%. It's really annoying.. Any ideas?

Do you by any chance have zonealarm installed? What anti-virus software? Try disabling all third party apps one at a time to see if this is causing a problem. Also install the latest Realteck driver. Please update your system specs so we can be more helpful.

    Hello and Welcome !

Download Process Explorer it's like a Super Task Manager it will allow up to expand a process and see which one is taking more Memory or CPU usage. Post us which one exactly is using the CPU.

    Hope this helps,

Dude, you are talking to a group of experts ("experts" being them more than myself). Everyone here knows that what you just said is not true. I could spend an hour explaining everything that is wrong with that statement, but instead I will give an article to read. This article is about spyware, which I consider to be a particularly dangerous form of malware.

I think you have to know little bit more about what Viruses do.

Viruses are software programs, and they can do the same things as any other programs running on a computer. The actual effect of any particular virus depends on how it was programmed by the person who wrote the virus.

Some viruses are deliberately designed to damage files or otherwise interfere with your computer's operation, while others don't do anything but try to spread themselves around. But even the ones that just spread themselves are harmful, since they damage files and may cause other problems in the process of spreading.

Note that viruses can't do any damage to hardware: they won't melt down your CPU, burn out your hard drive, cause your monitor to explode, etc. Warnings about viruses that will physically destroy your computer are usually hoaxes, not legitimate virus warnings.

We would strong recommend to install one so you wont regret in the future. There are lot of AV that has few low foot prints. For instance Microsoft Security Essentials is one that is highly recommend one around there. It free and effective.

    Good Luck,
    Captain

Some users have two virus scanners, which certainly impacts performance. But not to have any is plain suicide.
