    Problem with SoundMAX

    Hi,
i have a problem with my sound card SoundMAX AD1988b (the supremefx card in bundle with motherboard asus maximus II formula).

When i try to install the driver for win7 x64 downloaded from asus center i have this error: "the audio driver files do not support your computer hardware".

    Anyone can help me?

    thx

I notice there are two audio drivers. One is for every OS version and a beta for Win 7 only. If you haven't tried the Beta version, download and try that one.

Are there any motherboard (chipset) drivers for this board? If there are, install the chipset drivers then try the sound drivers again.

Yes, the chipset drivers installed correctly for my mobo asus maximus formula II.

2 years ago I bought a asus maximus formula and died three months ago. I sent to
Asus RMA without accessories that have requested them and I have returned 1 month and a half after a maximus II formula.

It is possible my sound card is not compatible with this version of the motherboard?

    Sorry for my bad english.

You don't have a separate "sound card", the Soundmax is a chip on the motherboard ("Integrated Audio") thus it has to be compatible. Have you contacted ASUS about the problem?

Actually it isn't on the motherboard it is a riser card that only works with the boards they come with, and still functions just like what you would expect from any other onboard audio solution. In the case of m0uthless's first board,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - Maximus Formula

it came with the original SupremeFX,

    SupremeFX II Audio Card
ADI 1988B 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
Coaxial / Optical S/PDIF out ports
    ASUS Noise Filter
    whereas the replacement board,

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards - Maximus II Formula

came with the SupremeFX X-Fi version (of which the only thing even remotely X-Fi like about it is it gets to use some of the X-Fi software, other than that it is purely Soundmax audio),

    SupremeFX X-Fi Audio Card
    - ADI® AD2000B 8-channel High Definition Audio CODEC
    - Creative X-Fi capability
    - X-Fi interface
    Coaxial/Optical S/PDIF out ports
Probably why the riser from the first board doesn't work with the second. As I understand them they will only work on the board they came with due to the bios support for them.

If you didn't get the riser card with the replacement, I would confirm with Asus that they aren't inter-changeable and if that is the case request they send you the proper one for the new board.
