    Mic quality

http://www.uploadmusic.org/uploaded....83878482.mp3Ok we'll ever since i've gotten this new pc in June, that came with windows 7 home (i burned a ultimate) x32, the sound has been bad.

On my windows 7 and every other one ive been on the sound isn't as high and my mic sounds more high pitched, no its not the mic its the new computers from vista - 7

On my windows xp, which broke, the sound was more deeper? i dont know i cant explain it and the sound played twice as loud

Also when you listen on xp it sounds a bit different

    heres some examples
Dont diss my songs lmao, the W7 1 is just a test

W7 -- (listen to the taken off part )

I have a computer based recording studio using Sonar. I would never use a "computer" mic or the built in computer sound card for any recordings.

You didn't list your system specs so we can't directly comment on your hardware. But, at a minimum I would suggest a good quality USB connected mic such as Samson or Shure, if you want to use the built in hardware for recording. Otherwise an external USB connected interface unit and a good mic with an XLR connector for the interface unit would be my recommendation.

do you think i need a new sound card? because i really dont think different mic's will do anything its the sound on here

and if i need a new sound card what requirements would be good?

Even though it's an "entry level" PC, the audio chip is probably the same as other models.

According to the listing at office depot the card only lists Windows XP compatibility.

Most of the new Windows 7 Xfi models are PCIeX1 connection. According to what I find at HP your PC has two PCIeX1 connectors, one PCIeX16 (for video) and one PCI connector.

Actually, for recording I would go with a USB connected interface unit such as the Alesis IO2 HERE and a regular PA mic. You don't need a $100 Shure SM58, something such as this one will work good for Rap or singing. The Alesis even comes with a copy of Cubase LE multi-track recording software.

    a bit about microphones
some inputs take a stereo mic and others a mono, the incorrect one either wont work or will sound tinny.
and some take crystal mics or dynamic. contact your computer manufacturer as to what it needs if other suggestions don't work.

A "Standard" computer mic (and what I've run across on ALL Computers for years) is a "condenser" style mic. It is a mono microphone and the "sleeve" on the stereo plug is for 5 volts DC to power the condenser mic, it's not for a "stereo" mic.

Although I agree with fireberd, try right clicking on the speaker icon on the lower right, choose recording devices and select your input, enter properties -> advanced. Set recording to either 48kHz, 24bit or both and see if that helps.
