Windows 7: PowerDVD strange problem

PowerDVD strange problem

I recently installed Windows 7 after getting my new Nvida 460. Everything appeared top be working correctly for several days. I was using ITunes to listen to music etc etc without any problems.

Yesterday I decided I wanted to begin watching Blue-rays again on my system so installed PowerDVD 10 from its website.

After installtion I watched one DVD without any problems before shutting the system down.

Today on starting the PC I found myself without any sounds from windows.

I run out of my motherboards on-board optical port to a creative speaker system. After much fiddling around in the settings I found I do have sound coming through the HDMI port to my TV so I know there inst an overriding problem with windows in that regards.

I thought it was maybe a problem with the cables to the speakers, however on trying a DVD in PowerDVD my speakers all appear to work fine.

I have looked at every setting within Windows I can think of, but nothing appears to fix the problem.

I like PowerDVD and at this time have not uninstalled it to see if this fixes the problem.

Has anyone else come across similar problems?

Welcome to the Seven Forums! Hodes101

I used to run the older versions of PowerDVD 4-6.0 on XP instead of WMP 10 or along with 10 on the older version there. The Cyberlink software always ran like a champ for most things.

The lack of sound for things like the default Windows sounds assigned to various functions typically points to the default player or speaker setting being changed. The first place to look for what is now the default speakers as well as configuring them would be the Control Panel>Sound Playback tab to see what that shows.

Also look in the Windows as well as onboard sound's application for the sound mixer options to what has been disabled. PowerDVD itself generally wouldn't see any of that effected however and still seems to be working.
