No Sound in WMP 12 - Sometimes
I've just discovered what could only be a bug with the DivX codecs of Windows 7 RC x 64 Build 7100.
All my AVI videos use DivX video, with stereo MP3 audio tracks, although some of them use AC3. Those AVI videos that use MP3 Audio work fine when opened in WMP, either from the library, double-clicking an icon in Explorer or in the Explorer preview pane.
However, those few AVIs I have that use AC3 Audio do not. If I open one of these files in WMP either from the library or by double-clicking an icon in Explorer, the video will play, but without sound at all. If, however, I select the file in Explorer and then press the play button in the Preview Pane, then the video plays properly with sound. If while the video is playing in the Preview Pane I click the "Open in Windows Media Player" icon, then the video play properly.
TOTALLY weird!
But it does seem to indicate that there is nothing wrong with either the Video file or my sound drivers.
What I have noticed is that when I double-click an AVI file in Explorer, it opens using the 32-Bit Windows Media Player, but when opened in the Preview Pane, then the file opens in the 64-Bit Windows Media Player.
I'm going to try using REGEDIT to fix this, but until then, does anyone else perhaps have a solution to force AVI file to open with 64-Bit WMP?
Oh, I almost forgot. I'm not using any third-party codecs, otherwise that would defeat the whole purpose of testing the build-in Windows 7 DivX codecs...
