I have tried all the suggestions here, and can't get sound on my machine at all... anyone have a working set of drivers please.

XP Drivers work in xp and vista.. but not windows 7 (Worse OS yet....)

    Motherboard is asus k8v-mx
Do you get a error message when installing the driver or the driver installs without problems but you don't get the sound? Are you using the Windows 7 x64?

I'll be honest, the way I installed the driver on my machine (it is x64, I don't know your system yet), it doesn't work flawless at all. Flight Simulator X still have no sound and I noticed that GTA3 mutes and becomes very slow after some 1 or 2 hours of game play. Only Need for Speed Underground and the Windows Media Player have being playing correctly by now. May be this problem is affecting more you, and I don't know the extent yet. Also I don't know your build. Mine is 6801.

Soundmax 5.12.01.3665 works on Asus P4P800-SX

After seeing the hint in this thread, I tried every (32-bit) driver for SoundMax with my Asus computer (Asus P4P800-SX m/b, on which I can run Soundmax 5.12.01.3665 with Windows XP SP3 32-bit boot).

Under Win7 32-bit, I found the trick was to do this:

    1. Remove all previous sound drivers (I had tried Realtech, other AC97, several SoundMax versions). Reboot.
    2. Go to Windows Update, and disable automatic download and install (otherwise, your work may be undone by an automatic Windows Update of the carefully-installed driver).
    3. Go to Asus website, search for the motherboard and download the SoundMax drivers for Windows XP - for me, the one originally used was version 5.12.01.3665 - don't use anything more recent.
    4. Unpack the ZIP file, find the setup.exe, right-click and go to Properties and mark it as Window XP compatible. Then run the executable, reboot, etc.
Prior to doing all this, I had simply copied the smwdm.sys file (565Kb) into c:\windows\system32\drivers\ (overwriting whatever was there) and rebooted - but it didn't work for me.

Sound seems OK, so far - though on first run of SoundMax (UI) I did get a message about a missing codec. I haven't resolved that, but haven't seen that message for a while.

    cheers!

I have a Fujitsu Siemens motherboard with Soundmax AD 1888 audio on it and I am unable to find a working driver for it. I tried all suggested solutions above but none of them worked for me. I used 5.12.01.3665, started setup in XP compatibility mode, seemed quite OK, but then I got the message "Driver not found ! Reboot your system and run this setup again !" I tried 3 times, maybe that was not enough.
    Any new idea ? Thanks
