Constant Clicking Through Speakers

I'm on a wireless network in my student house, from a wired internet connection from Virgin Media Broadband (UK).
Didn't check when on battery power, but I think we established the clicking was coming from the installed software, as the clicking happened when using the laptop speakers, headphones, or the Hi-Fi speakers, rather than only just one of these. And also when the associated software was disabled, the clicking stopped.

Understood.. I was a couple od posts behind.

So the clicking is coming from the wireless connection/adapter.
You mentioned ISP, the software you stopped on startup is something that "activates" the wireless connection to Virgin Media?

In other words, do you have to stop Internet access to stop clicking?

Just curious really...

There are many internal and external way of getting unwanted sound through speakers. Glad you went step at a time to figure it out. Good job to all. I have seen florescent lights from other rooms on the same home circuit cause this problem. Just a thought, could you have a ground problem. I have also seen a poor ground from where you computer or modem plugs in all the way back to the fuse/circuit breaker box and it's grounds. I say this because I know of no way a program can cause this problem but sometimes I'm thick headed.

The clicking is something going wrong with the software, causing it to use the sound which plays when you open a folder in windows explorer, over and over again many times a second. Do not know how / why it got like that, and how / why it's only just happened now.

The software from my ISP is just extra software through which I can access their services, such as Anti-V and Anti-Spy Software (Which I already have) and other services. I am still able to use the internet as it is separate from my wireless network stuff.

Just want to say thanks so much for this. I too developed this constant clicking noise today, typed the issue into google and was directed to this site. I immediatly disabled VirginMedia Hub in msconfig. The issue is now resolved. Thanks so much for taking the time to investigate the issue. For what its worth i`m running Vista and the sound was coming through my laptop speakers
