Sound level equalization on recordings

I use mediamonkey, and I would say make a separate folder of all the mp3's you want to use in the car, add that folder to the Mediamonkey library, and normalize just that folder....thereby leaving your originals untouched. That way, it doesn't matter that the leveling is permanent....your originals will still be safe!

I did basically the same thing with my old MP3 player that I used at work, plugged into a stereo.....made copies that were normalized just for that, then I deleted them from my hard driveafter loading them on the player.

Have you checked to make sure the car will play a data disc?

The m4a songs will not automatically be converted to mp3 when you burn, either. So if you did burn them, I'd guess the car wouldn't play them. Converting them to mp3 will result in a quality loss, too....but maybe in a car that quality loss might not be noticeable. If you chose to try that, then I would say again to preserve the originals, because the conversions won't sound as good.....just delete the conversions after you burn the disc.

I think the only way to get around that would have been to use Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...) to load that folder of songs, and use it to number the list of tracks in the order you wanted....and only then burn the disc. My suggestion is just listen to the disc in shuffle mode, to bypass the alphabetical order.
