"Bad directsound" error destroyed my audio
Hello,
I usually use headphones, but today I changed the input and put on the speakers cable. When I sat back on the PC, I tried to play some music on Winamp put it displayed "bad directsound input" . I switched back to speakers and it kept displaying it. I rebooted -> no change. So I started researching - here are the results:
- My "Windows audio" is on.
- System recovery didn't work.
- Winamp -> prefferences -> plug-ins -> output had only one option - primary sound driver
- Although my microphone worked, my headphones didn't appear as audio recording device in the Sound options in the control panel.
I concluded that my audio drivers are screwed up so I decided to reinstall them. Went to Control panel -> devices -> Sound, video and game controllers and deleted all the audio drivers. Then I ran a scan for hardware changes and the new drivers installed.
And there comes the bad part:
Everything seemed fine - I could see my audio devices, windows showed that there was totally nothing wrong with my audio. I even saw the audio levels and stuff,no more "bad directsound" error, but...
there is no sound. No sound whatsoever. I tried rebooting, changing to speakers/headphones but nothing worked. Windows keeps showing that everything is fine but I don't hear nothing, although everything looks the same way as it was before the "bad directsound" error with the only difference that I can't hear anything!
