but also remember that the bose speakers you heard in the shop (or wherever) were running on a very different audio setup than yours...you'll only get the same sound if you've got the same cd player, amp and whatnot.

I have to add that sound is subjective. If YOU like the Bose that's all that matters. I hate liver, but would never tell someone it tastes like crap. I would say I don't care for the taste myself.
While sound is subjective, I'd be willing to bet that the people who believe that Bose sounds great and is worth it....also likely haven't spent hardly any time looking at competing products...nor could they name more than 3 other reputable speaker companies. That's the part that I don't like about the whole situation.

I cannot even count the number of times that I have talked about audio with people and they say, "I thought Bose speakers were the best". They will tell you straight up, they know absolutely nothing about audio....but somehow have this instinctual knowledge that Bose speakers are some of the best out there.

Or when you talk to somebody and they say, "yeah, I've got this Bose surround sound system at home and it's spectacular...you wouldn't even believe how good it is. We spent a lot on it, but boy are we glad we did". They truly believe that dollar for dollar, they have a killer system. But I'd be willing to bet that if you gave me $3,500 to spend on anything else, I could piece something together that would outperform it...and have money left over in the end.

I just don't like to see uninformed customers. And I truly think, that many bose purchasers are uninformed. Universally, the people that I have spoken with, will tell you straight up, they don't have a clue when it comes to all of this stuff. To me, it's astounding that these same people would pony up the big dollars without having some clue.

I have a pair of Harmon/Kardon desktop speakers hooked up to my laptop that sound fine, but when I really want to kick it out I attach a older Bose Acoustic Wave (with cassette, no remote) I bought on Ebay. Sounds awesome!

We are after all only talking about little home office/computer speakers and the Bose are fine hell more than fine. But for a reference tool/monitor or main system not so much. But again for the main stay of people out there they are in fact much better than most combo systems (ala Best Buy and the like) but just as with most things once you look beyond and into the whole world of fine components we get to levels of sound and video reproduction that will amaze and astound you with life like representations for a very long period. These are the informed and often labored purchases that require an investment in knowledge to fully understand and appreciate, much like many of us here at SF we get it. But this isn't to close the door on those that don't place their emphasis in the same areas....and that's fine. It takes all kinds in this world and I respect those that have an opinion different than mine. But when it comes to the passions of sounds and joys of musical reproduction in my home I take a path not often taken but truly enjoyed when embarked !

It also depends on what you're looking for. I don't know of anyone that makes such a good sounding radio or portable system such as the Acoustic Wave.

Cambridge soundworks systems by henry kloss. These sound great as well and are often half the price of the bose.

Like I said the bose wave radio is ok and sounds alright. But its also 500+...so when you are talking this much money its wise to shop around and perhaps consider a slightly larger system. Compared to my home theater setup the bose wave radio does not provide room filling sound. But then again...I spent more than 500 on my setup.

There’s always going to be someone who doesn't like a particular product or company for whatever reason. I too have my likes and dislikes about certain products/companies myself and will state an opinion…. but telling someone their particular choice is crap, and then telling them they lack knowledge by choosing said product is in poor taste in my opinion.

In the end get what sounds good to you. And it's not like Bose is some slouch.... the biggest gripe a lot of people have is the pricing, that's basically it.

And let's not forget Bose's claim to fame.... a lot of sound for a small footprint.

    My two cents. I'm out.

And no.... other then my Triport headphones, I don't own any other Bose products.
