audio lag on linein and mic

Under xp i had my guitar connected through my effects peddle, to the mixer and then to the line in on the pc. I have the exact same setup on windows 7 but for some reason i'm getting a fraction of a second lag between plucking the string to the speakers making the sound. I've only had this problem since installing windows 7. has anyone else had this issue and if so is there a fix? i'm using onboard audio as don't have a sound card just yet.

It's rather annoying and impossible to play in tune with the beat as it always sounds a fraction of a second off.

Hi ,exactly the same problem here.Im using an on board sound card. I would have thought it would be a driver issue. I`ve tried connecting my effects peddle usb to the computer and playing through that but the delay is still there.Till it`s fixed I`ll have to use the headphones again

I have this same problem too. I have my TV connected to a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card so that I can use my computer speakers with the TV. I had this same system when I was using XP and had no problems, but with Windows 7 RC there's a notable lag in audio. Just a fraction of a second as you said but enough to notice that the audio and video don't sync up.

I have the exact same problem and get the lag with my guitar pedal too. I've been suggested to install ASIO4ALL that will apparently reduce the lag. I already had ASIO4ALL installed but haven't figured out my problem ( ASIO4ALL - Universal ASIO Driver ). I've been googling around for hours and still haven't fixed my problem. I hope Microsoft will look forward to this cause it is IMPOSSIBLE to do audio recording this way. Try ASIO4ALL, maybe it can work for you..

    This works for me!

Go to the "Speakers" icon in the icon tray, right click it and press "Playback Devices" go to the playback device you are using and press properties. Go to the levels tab, and un-mute "Microphone" or "Line-in" or whatever you are using, turn it right up and it should work fine without any lag :) Worked for me anyway. Cheers.

I have a recording studio and "latency" is a major problem/concern in studios.

PC Sound Cards typically have latency too.

You can test your system's latency with the free DPC Latency Checker
