The first time was with these particular discs; 16x is the slowest it will let me burn.

FYI: Maxell CD-R 80min/700MB (I paid 9 bucks for a 10-pack at ProVantage; includes shipping and jewel cases)

Pretty cheap! Get what ya pay for, I guess...

You could try the free Deepburner.

Nice! It is a bit chilly out here.
Over several years, you're first to come back with the right answer..

Well, now- I'm dumbstruck!

DeepBurner just burned an audio CD at 48x (the only speed option (MAX) it offered, incidentally) and it worked without a hitch!
On those same cheap CD's, too
In fact, DeepBurner was able to erase an old CD-RW that the other burners wouldn't touch- wow...

Amazing!

Since I started this thread I have tried half a dozen different burners with no luck at all.

Thanks so much for the lead!

Now, why would one burner out of all of those work and the others don't?
I was beginning to think it was my drive. But apparently not.

??? Does the CD actually play in a standard CD player?

Glad it worked, but but but.... the drop down button doesn't offer you a list of speeds?

Here's what i see...

Although... why mess with a good thing?

I haven't tried it yet in a player other than my computer.

The speed drop-down-box only offers me 48x (twice! two entries- both 48x)

Your screen shot shows "Session at Once"; are you writing to a RW in this shot?
I changed it to Disk at Once for the CD-R writes- is that right?

And, what does this mean? 6:0:0,N in front of the drive info?
I get different numbers depending on which Program I'm using.

Actually, I wasn't writing to anything.. just an example, "Disk at Once" is correct.

Glad it's working...

I'm using ImgBurn to do this currently but that app is not for everyone. Why not get a copy of HTFireman it's free and is especially easy and fast for making audio cds either as an mp3 disc or as a standard cd you can choose what you want right from the start page and then drag your files to the window and click burn to get the job done it's that simple.
