GTS 450 HDMI and onboard sound[semi-solved]

I have my PC(Win 7 x64) plugged into my HDTV via HDMI cable through my GTS 450 video card. I can't always use my TV speakers(ie, late night gaming). Figured I'd just plug my headset to my tower, but that doesn't work. When I right click on the volume in the task bar and click playback devices, the headphones show up as "Not plugged in". This goes for my mic as well.

How can I go about switching from the integrated audio on my video card to my on board sound?

Edit: Was cruising around the internets before posting here. A common answer seems to be to change the audio setting in my BIOS from "Auto" to "Enabled". Doesn't seem to be my problem as I only have "Enabled" and "Disabled"

Also, when I check my "Sound, video, and game controllers" in device manager, it has 4 listings for "NVIDIA High Definition Audio". Dunno if that changes anything or not however.

You have to change the default playback device in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel. You can't have both the HDMI audio and the regular PC's audio - you can only have one default playback device. When you want to use the regular PC sound card you have to select that, when you want to use HDMI you select that.

I have a GTS450 video card.

Changing the default playback was the first thing I tried.

My Sound Panel:

There is no way to make the Headphones option appear as plugged in(that I know of). Updating my realtek drivers will make the Speakers appear as plugged in, but only if I go into the realtek control panel and check the box that reads "Disable front panel jack detection". Doing this yields no results however, seeing as it doesn't output anything when I set it to default.

Select the "Speakers" option.

I don't have a RealTek audio system so I don't know how their internal settings are set. But, I do know you must select the Speakers as the default playback device for the PC's sound, in this case RealTek, to work.

Is it possible that there is a conflict somewhere? ie, something is causing my PC to always use the GTS450 no matter what? How would I go about finding out this is the case?

An update of sorts - I unplugged my HDMI from my TV and into my Monitor that I got with my PC. The monitor doesn't have speakers. Plug in my headphones into any of the audio out jacks and still nothing. This is really starting to work my last nerve.

Could the issue here be that the 450 itself is somehow disabling all other sound than its own? If so, is there a way I can stop it from doing so in such a way that I can just switch it from the GTS augio to my on board? <_>

edit2: Went out and bought a USB headset, set my audio output to speakers and got it to stream into my headphones. Wonder why the analog jacks don't work though. :\

It would appear that when an HDMI cable is plugged in the GTS450 automatically takes over. I don't use HDMI (not yet, anyway) and there is no conflict, and in fact the GTS450 isn't even showing up in the playback panel, but the drivers are installed. I suspect that if I plug in an HDMI cable I will get the same thing you have. If my theory is correct, this would explain why you can't get the regular PC audio with an HDMI cable plugged in.
