So I did not try a Vista driver for the Asus and it seems that will work; thank you, whomever wrote that....

Well here we are in 2010 and the same problems mentioned by Albo continue ... still wasting time inserting/removing/inserting/removing Creative Audigy card and drivers, playing with Realtek drivers for my Asus motherboard ... no, I take that back. I'm done wasting time. I'm going soundless until I find a card that is both Windows 7 compatable and Sims3 compatable and cheap to boot.........
A lot of new motherboards now have built in audio cards. Mine has some NICE Realtek HD Audio, and I am quite happy with it.

Use the KX drivers for your Audigy, they work very well for general audio use.

Official kX Project Site -- News

download the latest version... ends in 3550.

There's a single got'cha.. The second ouput of the Audigy and other Creative cards is "black" in color... that output also has the higher quality D/A converter. If I'm not mistaken the KX drivers default to that output.. so if you don't get sound, try the 2nd output jack. There a software switch on the opening page of the KX Mixer close to the main output controls, the main output is selectable. These drivers are complex, they offer featuires galore and they also sound great. Just a thought.
