Latitude D830 sound and SecureDoc in 7RC

Hello. I'm testing out Windows 7 RC on a Latitude D830 laptop. The problem I'm having is that the audio drivers that come with Windows 7 work fine, but they don't recognize when the laptop is docked into a port replicator. So when the laptop is docked the external speakers plugged into the port replicator don't work; all sounds come through the laptop's internal speakers.

I had a similar problem with Vista, so the way I fixed it was to download & install Dell's drivers, which corrected the problem.

However in Win 7 RC, I've tried Vista's drivers, and they work up until I encrypt the laptop using Winmagic's SecureDoc 4.6 client, then the drivers fail to load on restart and no sound will work. The only way to get them to work again is to roll back the drivers to Win 7's default driver.

I've tried this on a Latitude D820 with the same drivers running the same SecureDoc and they work fine.

Has anyone run across a problem like this? Unfortunately removing SecureDoc is not an option at this time.

If you are experiencing after installing SecureDoc Boot Logon, the sound card stopped working, the reason could be be that the sound card may not be properly claiming memory.

Some specific sound cards in the Dell machines including the Sigmatel High Definition Audio is known to have this issue.

You can resolve the problem by doing the following:

At boot logon, you will need to login at preboot with an user with administrative rights, or use an administrative key file.

Type in the password for the key file and press [F8] instead of pressing [Enter].

Then Press [F5].
Beside X Mode, change the value to 0001.
Save the changes.

The computer will continue to boot.

The sound card should not be working as specified. You may need to contact your system administrator if you don’t have the appropriate rights.

Hopefully everything works out.

I was able to get an admin key file so I could get to those settings. I changed X Mode to 0001. It still didn't help with Vista's drivers. So I'm back to square one.
