    You usually need a HDMI driver to send the sound to the TV. The cable alone is not enough.

    What make and model is your laptop? Unless you fill out your system specs it is more or less impossible to help you.

    Not a problem, that's what we are here for. Although we don't usually support Vista as far as I am aware. Give me a second to check a few things.......be right back...........

    What is the model number or other description of your laptop?

    OK, you meant an Advent ROMA.

    Hmmm...quite difficult to find stuff. You may be better advised to ask here;

    Advent Laptop/Notebook help • Advent Support

    Some laptops require extra drivers for HDMI sound, others don't. I can't seem to find yours. It may not be a driver problem at all but some sort of defect on either the laptop or TV port.

    Some also require that you disable on board sound drivers to connect to a TV.

    I will keep looking but it may take a little while...........

    OK, try this, with the laptop connected to the TV per HDMI cable try

    <Fn>+ <F4> ( That means press the function key and F4 at the same time)

    Then press;

    <Fn> + <F5>

    does that change the volume and switch the display correctly?

    You can get a manual ( Handbook) for it here;

    ECS Web Site

    Still have not found any drivers, so they may be integrated. Not much more I can do really. Best you ask at that Advent support forum.

    Not all 1.3 HDMI leads are created equal

    You might need a 1.3c 'certified' cable that will support the amount of digital bandwidth required for pictures and sound. (Buy an HDMI 1.4 cable as they are often the same price and 'backward' compatible!)

    Older cable versions 1.3/1.3b won't necessarily work properly!

    Otherwise its a case of hooking up a seperate optical or spdif digital cable for sound(depends what outputs are provided) if hdmi sound is not supported by the motherboard.
