How can I keep Win7 from turning off my sound when idle?

I recently installed Windows 7 coming from XP. My on board sound is turned off while idle. There is no option in power management to disable this nor is it available in the device manger settings. Does anyone know of a solution? My motherboard is an ASUS M4A87TD EVO with VIA VT1818 on board audio.

Hello and welcome to the forum I am not sure I understand your problem, have you tried clicking on the loudspeaker icon in the notification area and selecting playback devices? This is where you configure your sound
ps right click on any device and select show disabled devices so you are sure you can see them all

post back with how it works out or if you need more help

Windows turns off my sound device when it is idle just like how it turns of hard drives and other devices if they haven't been used during X minutes. Unlike the hard drives my sound device does not have a option under power management to keep Windows from turning off the device. I have checked under power management and the device manager and it is not there. I'm not having any difficulty playing sounds I just want to control the power management of this device.

Yeah, you can't have your sound playing when your CPU is asleep. You can;t do anything when it is asleep.

Are you asking for a way of preventing your system from sleeping when audio is playing? It seems MS has thought of this for video (there is a power management setting for video), but not audio. I guess they can;t imagine someone just listening to music or audio programing on their computer.

    Idle or Sleep?
If idle (non-sleep), then it shouldn't be happening.
If sleep, then Geneo is right.

Similar problem with sound device when idle

I have a similar problem. I turn on my laptop, listen to some music or simply nothing (just turn it on), then I don't use it for X minutes and I don't have sound... If I go to manager devices it doesn't appear the sound device, like if my laptop doesn't have sound device. At the next day, I turn it on again and I have sound... if I don't use it for X minutes and then try to use it and see a big "X" in the sound icon telling me that I don't have a sound device installed.
