No sound from LG 50PS30FD Plasma TV from Windows 7

    Hi,
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate system connected to a LG TV. According to the LG manual, you can't take sound off of HDMI, so I have to run a analogue stereo cable to the audio in socket on the TV.

Trouble is, there is no sound on the TV. Sound works normally for DTV and DVD, just not for PC.

The sound manager shows sound is being played. When I plug in a set of external speakers sound comes out of them. With HDMI only, no sound. With analogue cable no sound.

The graphics card is a Gigabyte GTX 9800. The sound is Realtek HD audio from mobo, which is an MSI G31M3-F V2. I've tried itunes, VLC, Media player and even reinstalled windows.

The TV has no Optical in, only an optical out.

    Can anyone offer some suggestions.

I've contacted LG, but they are horrendously slow at responding to technical support requests (I've been waiting 3 weeks, and called 3 times).

It isn't that the TV can't accept audio over HDMI, it is that your video card can't send audio over HDMI without doing this,

Guide: 8800GT/9800GT/9800GTX Sound over HDMI (Now including Creative cards) - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net

After doing the above, from looking at the manual for your TV it is just a matter of making sure the cable is at least HDMI 1.3 or higher spec.

Yes, I already had that cable connected. The problem is solved; there were two problems.

    1. The G31M3 has a 3pin SPDIF connector, not a two pin connector and the card only came with a two wire connector. The pins on the mobo are gnd, spdif and vcc. I found that the cable was on gnd and vcc, instead of gnd and spdif.

    2. After changing this it still did not work. So I removed the stereo analogue cable as I was going to remove them all and start again. As soon as I unplugged the stereo cable the sound worked.

The HDMI cable is a v1.3b

    thanks for your help.
