Microphone volume won't stay put

I want to lower my microphone volume from 100 to 50. When I do it, it will stick around for a little while (while I record something), but then it will jump back to 100 sometime after I'm done or even before I start. For some reason, the adjustment just won't be saved. I'm hitting OK to close the menus, so that isn't the issue. Here is a screenshot of the menu I am using:

I am trying to keep the top bar at 50, but it just won't stay put. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Does whatever app you are using have an "auto-adjust mic"????

No, it doesn't seem to. I am using fraps, and the only audio option in it are 2 check boxes, Record Win7 Sound and Record External Input, both of which are checked to indicate yes.

It's a thing you may have already enabled in the 'Advanced' tab. There should be 2 options named 'Give exclusive mode applications priority' and 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' uncheck both options (Or try one and not the other). The app will try to automatically adjust the sensitivity of the microphone, in order to increase when you are not loud enough, and decrease when you're too loud.
Hope this helps :)

Sorry it took so long to reply, I had to test it. Unfortunately, no, it didn't work, but I appreciate the help. Any other ideas? =]

Not sure then. Maybe you could record with Audacity and Fraps, so you have 2 different streams you can edit.
