    HDMI Sound issue

I have an Asus G73 laptop connected to an acer GD235HZ monitor via HDMI, speakers are connected through the monitor and in normal operation of the laptop i have sound set for HDMI and works completly fine. If I turn the monitor off for any amount of time i lose the ability to set sound through HDMI and must log off and log on, or restart the laptop to re-enable HDMI sound. In the sound playback devices i have Disabled and Disconnected devices shown. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit SP1.

    Try this,

1 Right Click on sound Icon.
    2 Select Playback
    3 select HDMI.

I have something similar happening at the moment. A 5450 is in the htpc. It's outputting through hdmi to a Denon AVR 1911 (bitstreaming). If I turn the monitor off I also lose sound and have to log on and off or reboot. However, if I keep something running, like Winamp, it doesn't lose sound when I switch to the satellite or turn the monitor off.

I haven't bothered to dig too deep, but it "might" be my hdmi cable... I'll test it out when the new ones arrive in a day or so.

this was a reply on notebook review forums by chastity:

"It's the DRM killing the audio connection... you could just rest the default output to your lappy speakers, then put them back to HDMI under Playback Devices." "You can thank the MPAA / RIAA for this, since they insisted on a Protected Audio Stream for HDMI."

so anyway... i'm pretty much giving up, don't think you can fix this problem
