HDMI Audio Issue

Hi everyone,

I tried to search for a solution to this one, but I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. I have built an HTPC with an ASUS P755H-M-PRO motherboard, with has DVI and HDMI outs. The HDMI out carries audio, making it perfect for an HTPC setup. And the best thing is, it works great, and I have almost no issues with it.

Recently I connected another monitor (Cheap Benq running at 1920x1080, same resolution as the TV) to the PC. With a second monitor connected (in the DVI port), the HDMI audio stop working. The video feed makes it to both screens, the HDMI audio device is still there and active in the Playback Device list, but no sound comes out. As soon as I disable the extra screen, Audio comes back.

Any idea what could be causing this? (well, the second monitor is causing it, I guess I'm looking for a solution which doesn't involve turning off the second monitor )

I'm running Win7 Ultimate x64, TV is a 1080p screen as is the Benq, TV is connected with a HDMI-HDMI cable, Screen with a DVI-HDMI cable (maybe I should try VGA for giggles).

Have you thought of the fact that the GFX card cant do 3 things at once.

Have you tried this way,

1, Plug in the monitor 1st.
2, Plug in the HDMI
3, Set the sound too HDMI.

Funny I know but it might just work.

I tried what you suggested, didn't work.

However, my idea of plugging the second monitor on VGA instead did work.

I guess it's probably a motherboard driver issue with routing the audio stream when there are 2 digital video outputs active. Though it does seem like a weird bug to have (seems obvious to me audio should always go to HDMI). And trying to get through to motherboard manufacturers for support is worse than pulling teeth...
