No Sound

Hi everyone. My name is Michelle and I'm new here so please forgive me if I make some mistakes at first. My problem is that my computer, a Dell Latitude, has got no sound coming from the speakers. I've checked and updated the drivers, turned the volume right up and checked Device Manager which doesn't show any problem. Would anyone have any suggestions? It would be much appreciated.

Michelle

Check to see if you get sound out of your headphones. At least that way you can narrow down the problem. If you do get sound out of the headphones then the problem has to do with the speakers/connections only. If you don't, then you have a systemwide problem.

Hi Michelle22

System spec's are very important in this situation, is it onboard sound or sound card (type), chipset drivers installed, video drivers also have bearing on your sound, just a few things to check.

Do you have your speakers plugged into the correct speaker jack ? Ususally green on most newer computers.

Sometimes the fix is simple. If you are using windows 7 click on start and control panel and go to hardware and sound. Click on change system sounds and then click on the playback tab. Look at the icons and see which one has the green check mark. You may have the wrong device activated. You might try changing the default device and see if that solves your problem. Good luck.

Hello Imperfect1. This is the one that worked. I used headphones and the sound was fine so I guess it's the speakers themselves. And its not on mute. Thank you so much for your help, at least I know where to go from here. Great avatar by the way.

Thank you all so much for your help. I think I'm going to have to come up with a better avatar, yours are all so great. And DocBrown, that is one freaked out avatar. I love it.

Thanks again
