    Also got noise with ALC883

    Hi

Have kind of the same problem. Have installed windows 7 RC and only have static noise when any sounds are played, systemsounds and everything else. I can lower the sound and it's if i hook up it through SPDIF toslink to my reciever I get the same noise so it's not the jack. It's the same if i have windows drivers or Realteks.

I have Realtek ALC883 and have installed version 2.28 HD Audio Codec Driver. I looked in device section and verified that its the right driver installed. I've tried testing different settings in the Realtek controlpanel but it's the same, nothing changes.

Does anyone else have similar problems or a solution?

    Hi guys,

I've just had the same issue with a friend's laptop i've just install Windows 7 on. After installing, the sound was VERY distorted so I downloaded R2.28 drivers but it didn't help. I've just installed the R1.73 and sound is now back to normal & outputting from both speakers (only 1 when it was distorted).

It must be something to do with older hardware (in my case anyway) so an older driver (in compat mode for Vista) worked like a charm.

Hope this helps others with the same issue.

Windows 7 audio distortion, clipping, compression issue

I had the problem of audio distortion, clipping and compression after I installed Windows 7. Nothing worked although I properly updated all audio related drives until I stumbled upon new settings interface in Windows 7 which I did not suspect. Here is what I did, which completely solved my audio problems.

Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab.
Right click on a playback device, and choose Configure Speakers.
The default is set to Stereo. I recommend choosing Quadrophonic if you do not have a subwoofer, and 5.1 Surround if you have a subwoofer connected. Go through the tests and confirm OK. Go through the rest of the playback devices. Finally, re-confirm default playback device (even if it was already set as default device – by choosing a difference device as default first then re-selecting the intended default device).

Give an audio source such as YouTube a try. I was surprised all my distortions, compressions and clipping issues were now completely gone.
